Camping & Hiking

Introduction

Camping is what scouting is all about. In fact, camping is the real reason that most boys join scouts in the first place. They join not for leadership opportunities or for the personal growth that scouting offers, not for advancement and recognition, but for the adventure. Take the camping out of scouts, as they tried to do from 1972 to 1979, and the boys will leave. Make camping a central part of your troop program, and not only will the boys stay, but leadership and advancement will follow.

This page is devoted to keeping the adventure in scouting.

Below you will find information on what basic gear and other things you will need to take when you go camping and hiking, plus other information pertaining to having a safe and fun outing.

Climbing & Rappelling

Below you will find "Links" and "Information" on Climbing and Repelling.

The Boy Scouts of America have stringent requirements for individuals governing indoor and ouTDoor climbing and rappelling activities. Find a course that provides the highest quality training in climbing, rappelling, safe anchor placement, risk management, and "Leave No Trace" techniques
