TVP Sausages

A tasty, quick meal for hungry backpackers with only dried ingredients.

INGREDIENTS:

2 cups TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein)
2 cups seasoned breadcrumbs
1 large spoonful dried onion
1 teaspoon dried garlic
1/2 cup flour
1 spoonful powdered egg
1 spoonful beef stock powder
1 splash olive oil
salt and pepper, to taste

PREPARATION:

  • In a bowl, soak TVP, garlic granules, and dried onion in enough boiling water to cover. Allow extra water because of rehydration. Leave 7 minutes. Add the breadcrumbs, salt and pepper, powdered egg, beef stock powder, and mix thoroughly.
  • Put some flour on a plate and spoon out a handful of the mix and shape into chunky sausages, coating them in the flour.
  • When done with all the mix, put the splash of olive oil into the frypan over low-med heat and brown them, turning frequently.
  • When browned, serve with instant mashed potatoes (mixed with a spoonful of powdered milk) and ketchup
